Tam Stockton
Artist Bio:
Tam Stockton was born in 1997 in Berkeley, California, USA, and is currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He primarily works in lens-based media and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bard College in 2019, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2025. During his studies, he served as a studio assistant to the artist Barbara Ess.
Stockton’s practice centers on a “peculiar aesthetic,” exploring the tension between materiality and image reproduction through dual manipulations in both physical and digital realms. His work not only interrogates the boundaries of the medium itself but also continuously questions the role of imagery within contemporary structures of perception and memory.
His artistic practice has been exhibited at numerous prominent institutions along the U.S. East Coast and has been featured multiple times in The New York Times arts coverage, establishing him as a significant emerging voice among the younger generation of contemporary photographers.
